Blog #9 Bansky Quotes by Josh Fay

Banksy is a phenomenal street artist and studio artist. He is most well known for his stencil graffiti which often lampoons established ways of thinking. If you don't know who he is, then you need to find out (if you have any integrity as an artist). The picture that I chose for this project is one of Banksy's infamous rats. All the words used are quotes from this enigmatic guerilla artist.

I had a lot of fun with this project. I actually started with a Chuck Close picture... that took me all of a few minutes to finish. It was fun but way too easy. I needed more of a challenge. So I wanted to see how many different artist I could emulate in the time period we had. I did end up going over a day or so (partially cause I forgot my flashdrive with my almost finished project at home) but I liked what I came out with. There is references to Close, Warhol, Lichtenstein and meshed it all together with a David Salle type collage. I am please with the end product. It has the actual pictures of me, but also has many references to my life. Toys of my kids, Pooh with a tattoo, a wolf which I drew shortly after finishing my Native American spirit quest. All in all- it's me!

Self Portrait by Josh Fay

For this project I chose to attempt to emulate the style of the Japanese Katsushika Hokusai. How closely my composition resembles his own is a matter of debate. As with most of his work, he uses a very minimalist style, which was difficult to duplicate in Illustrator. (odd as that sounds). As with my own personality, I've chosen to disconnect myself with my own image and concentrate on the surrounding. A few key images that define who I am would be the pentagram, which corresponds with my spiritual path of Witchcraft. The symbols on the sleeves are those of my patron Gods, Thor (right arm) and Odin (left sleeve). The smoke rising from the incense reveals my so-called "inner demon", and the use of the Samurai arch type represents both my love of the Samurai (in both a fictional and historical sense) and my identification with that particular warrior class, their code of ethics and the balancing of the spiritual self with the physical self.

Blog8, logo switch

I couldn't think of anything terribly clever for the logo/phrase, but I do like the way my manual pen tracing of Megan Fox turned out.

Blog #8- Logo Parody by Josh Fay

I really have a distaste for apple and the monopoly they've made with itunes/ipod. I generally don't buy music, I pirate it and I don't use ipods, I use a number of other mp3 player devices (sadly, none of which have the intuitive controls of the ipod). I do however use itunes which gladly accepts my 110gb's of stolen music. Apple, this peice is for you.

I took some reference from the fruit painting. That was about the how the middle class showed their affluence, so mine is showing one way people today squander their money.

I ended up doing two of these only because the first one just seemed too easy, too simple. Strangely enough, the Southern Baptist/Gay Rights logo was more difficult to do.
